Caged Genius” explores the tension between creativity and confinement. Painted in half-tone on wall panelling with vertical slats over thick felt, the medium itself becomes part of the message. The slats act as barriers, obscuring and fragmenting the image of Van Gogh with his sunflowers.

This fractured presentation mirrors how genius is often glimpsed in pieces — shaped by history, myth, and personal struggle. The vivid background colors push against the stark monochrome portrait, suggesting the vitality of imagination straining to break free. Through these contrasts, the work asks how much of true genius we are ever allowed to see.
