Ikigai in Colour is my exploration of “ikigai,” a Japanese concept meaning “reason for being” or the deep sense of purpose that gives life meaning. For me, ikigai is not a singular destination but a layering of joy, duty, struggle, and creativity. The central figure embodies presence and vitality, her gaze direct and unflinching. Around her, stenciled symbols, calligraphy, and patterns suggest memory and culture, while bold reds, blues, and yellows radiate energy. This work affirms that purpose is not found in stillness, but in the interplay of colour, rhythm, and resonance—the imperfect patterns that sustain life.
